Education

If the Traphene Hickman Library is the Door to Discovery, then the Cedar Hill Museum is your Door to History, from prehistoric times to present day, with experiences to pique the curiosity and inspire learning for every age.

Visit us and come face-to-face with a life-size representation of Cedar Hill’s earliest known resident, Plessy, an ancient aquatic Plesiosaurus, remains of which were discovered here in 1938 by T. J. Tidwell; or learn about the Balcones fault line that forms the northern rim of the Texas Hill Country, and the fossils found deep in the shale layers all across the state.

Our exhibits, oral histories, photo collections, and artifacts will bring history to life!

Texas Fossil Box

The Texas Fossil Box is a hands-on learning experience for young and old alike, featuring common fossils of the Cretaceous Period 145 to 66 million years ago, the same period of time when Cedar Hill’s Plesiosaurus would have dominated the Western Interior Seaway of North America.

Paleontologists Andre LuJan and Craig Montgomery teamed up to collect and curate this informative and fun educational tool.
